Conditions: a good storm the night before made the course pretty wet (and meant minor modifications has to be made to the track loop, though the course remained 3.0 miles); weather on race day was perfect, low 60’s and sunny.

DAVE DONALDSON GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

Merced Senior Sable Browning and Atwater Sophomore Stephany Uriostegui continued their long-standing duel with a memorable clash here. Running side-by-side throughout (mile splits of approximately 5:44 and 11:40), Browning used her 800/1600 meter leg speed to outkick Uriostegui in the final 200 meters, prevailing 17:36 to 17:41 and bettering her own course record.

Buhach Colony, a winner of multiple invitationals this year and undefeated in the CCC, held downs spots 3-7 for a dominant win. Their team time of 99:15 was a new course record.

GREG MCKINSTRY BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

Andrew Ray, defending champion, surged in the second mile to widen his lead and held on for a course record 15:26 for 3 miles. Ray, who clocked 9:29 for a full 2 miles this past spring, has not lost a CCC race all year.

Golden Valley, undefeated in the CCC and a 9 point winner over defending champion Atwater earlier this season, looked impressive in a big team win. The Cougars clocked 82:38 to cut over 3 minutes off of the previous course record, easily outdistancing the host Falcons, whose #2 runner was a late scratch.
